About Inspire

Founded in 1998, Inspire is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization applying management consulting strategies, tools, and techniques to help other nonprofits achieve greater social impact.

Inspire is run by a completely volunteer staff of junior consultants from Bain & Company, The Monitor Group, The Parthenon Group, L.E.K. Consulting, and Katzenbach Partners who devote time to Inspire projects in addition to their full-time consulting jobs.

Mission

We work to build a better world by helping nonprofit organizations achieve breakthrough results. We bring strategic thinking and results-oriented analysis to the leaders of organizations dedicated to the education, development, and well-being of school-aged children. In serving our clients, we create meaningful professional development opportunities for our volunteers, and provide our partner firms a vehicle for positive community engagement.

History

Inspire was founded in the kitchen of a South End apartment during the summer of 1998 by four young consultants from Bain and Monitor: Onil Gunawardana, Geoff Lieberthal, Amit Sevak, and Sasha Kovriga. Dedicated to having real impact on their community, they sought to create a volunteer non-profit organization that would put their professional business skills to work for the interests of Boston youth.

Today, Inspire’s purpose remains true to its roots: we seek to channel the passion of our young management consultants into their communities and translate their professional skills into true impact as they help young non-profit organizations make critical strategic decisions.

Inspire was legally incorporated in Massachusetts in 1999 and granted 501(c)(3) status in 2000. We remain a Boston-based non-profit organization. Since our founding, Inspire has grown to more than 100 active volunteers. In 2001, Inspire expanded to the Parthenon Group in Boston. In 2002, Inspire opened its first satellite site at Bain NYC. Most recently, Inspire has expanded to L.E.K. Consulting in Boston in 2004, and to Bain San Francisco, Bain Los Angeles, and Katzenbach Partners (New York) in 2006. Our growth has increased both the number of consultants available to work on cases and the number of clients we are able to serve.

Sponsoring Firms

Inspire’s relationships with Bain & Company, The Monitor Group, The Parthenon Group, and L.E.K. Consulting has been a key factor in the organization’s development.

In addition to annually committing funds to our development, our host firms offer Inspire access to cutting-edge strategic insights, access to intellectual capital, and low-cost access to the organization’s infrastructure.
